Autumn Korean Skincare Tips

You're one of two people: depressed at the turn of the season and chillier temps, or a happy scarf-wearing, pumpkin-spice latte drinker!

Whichever you are, you’ll be even happier with happy skin. Sometimes a sudden change in temperature can upset our skin’s barrier and acid mantle, causing outbreaks or dryness we’d rather just not deal with thank-you-very-much.

The summer holidays seem just like yesterday… why is my tan fading! Why is it raining so much! Are the leaves on the trees already turning brown?

So, what can a gal do for the inevitable cold UK weather? Prepare, plump and protect your skin with these autumn Korean Skincare tips!

Hydration

As your skin changes and reacts differently to the temperature drop, so our skincare approach and routine needs to change. If you’ve been focusing on oily skin and reducing pigmentation over the sunny summer, maybe it’s time to give those heavy hitting ingredients a miss and let your skin rest-up a bit.

It is time to embrace the ‘slugging’ and masked evenings. No matter what your family think or how ridiculous you look, pack on the hydration your skin is crying out for!

Increasing your usage of the right medley of ingredients and a heavier oculsive could be the answer to any unwanted seasonal skin changes and is a great autumn Korean skincare tip. Try swapping out your lotion or gel for a heavier cream and try ‘slugging’ patches of tricky skin, such as any rough patches or stubborn eczema, especially before you go to sleep.

By applying your heaviest formulations at night, you can be assured of all-night hydration. The Right Ingredients

Hyaluronic acid improves hydration of the epidermis by binding to water and giving the skin a plump, hydrated appearance. Hyaluronic acid can draw moisture from the air and keep your skin moist, holding almost 1000 times its weight in water. So, it’s not only a moisturizer, it actually also has the ability to hold extra moisture. Perfect for the bracing chilly morning walk you have to make on the daily.

Focus on The Skin Barrier

The fact is, if your skin barrier is healthy and working as it should, you wouldn’t be having any skin issues. A healthy skin barrier works like a two way valve; letting moisture in and letting your skin breath.

If the barrier is faulty, it’s not going to retain oil and therefore, much needed oil to hydrate and protect your skin from drying and harmful particles. The results are patchy, dry skin and spots coming out of seemingly nowhere.

How does one build up the skin barrier?

Start things off right by cleansing with a neutral pH. Our skin’s natural pH level ranges from 4 to 6, so stick to a mildly acidic cleanser such as this one or this one. The last thing you want to do is start your skin’s day off with the wrong cleanser!

Following that, you have the opportunity to layer up with the right toner and serum that should be packed with hydrating ingredients and antioxidants. Mask More Often

Applying a sheet mask will help you achieve extra dewy and healthy skin. Don’t Skimp On SPF

SPF in Autumn?! Yes. Even an overcast and cloudy day can produce harmful rays. That’s why it’s an absolute must have in a Korean skincare routine.

Protect your skin’s barrier is by wearing a daily SPF full of antioxidants so that as well as defending your skin against the sun’s damaging rays, it also adds protection from other environmental stressors.

Furthermore, ensure that your sunscreen (like any other skincare essential) must also be free of chemicals, parabens, dyes, alcohol and fragrances in its formulation. Opt for a sunscreen that’s hypoallergenic, non-pore clogging and dermatologically tested. Aim to choose a formula that has mild yet effective ingredients.
