Beauty of Joseon Empties

I feel very conflicted about finishing five Beauty of Joseon products this week. On one hand, I’m pleased to tell you that I can wholeheartedly recommend the products. On the other hand, I’m sad because I simply cannot live without them! Here’s why.

Jelloskin Massage Cream for Face & Body

The Jelloskin Massage Cream is incredibly versatile; it can be used for both the face and body. It’s my favourite low effort post-shower product. I like to slather it on my entire body before massaging it in. I then use it on my face with my rose quartz gua sha tool. Gua sha is a popular skincare tool that is at least 2000 years old; in other words, it’s tried and tested. It’s undeniably stood the test of the time and it’s impossible to not realise why. It’s great for stimulating the lymphatic system to improve blood flow, which, in turn, reduces inflammation. Gua sha and Beauty of Joseon’s jelloskin massage cream is a marriage made in heaven. It’s incredibly refreshing and comforting in equal measure. It’s the perfect cream for autumn and winter.

Its subtle natural scent doesn’t bother my sensitive nose; the scent dissipates soon after application, transforming it into a scent-free formula. Magical right? I love its soft matcha colour; it makes its application on the body a breeze. In other words, it’s easy to see what areas you missed out.

Radiance Cleansing Balm

The Radiance Cleansing Balm has been a staple of mine for a year. I even brought it to Tokyo with me. Its solid to liquid formula and robust packaging makes it ideal for plane travel. I didn’t worry about my carry-on belongings becoming an oil slick due to leakages; the lid could be trusted to remain shut until we were reunited in my hotel bathroom. Its contents are equally well thought out. This Beauty of Joseon’s balm is scent free, melts at a steady pace in one’s hands (no slippery residue on sinks) and it emulsifies in the most perfect way. I don’t fear having residue on my face; its cleansing powers are really that powerful.

That’s not to say that it’s moisture stripping though. It definitely doesn’t have the properties of harsh soaps. In fact, it doesn’t contain such surfactants; its well designed formula contains nourishing ingredients such as oatmeal, rice bran, and rice extract respectively.

Its emulsifying quality serves a dual purpose. It removes sunscreens and cushion foundations with total ease. I find the visible emulsion incredibly helpful in terms of knowing where to rinse and when to stop rinsing (water conservation is important).

Matte Mugwort and Camilia Sun Stick

Thirdly, I finished the Matte Mugwort and Camilia Sun Stick. I credit it with minimising sun damage; it’s impossible to not want to apply it throughout the day. Its skin blurring and blotting effects make it a great alternative to pressed and loose powder.

Let’s clear this up: hygiene concerns. I’ve noticed people’s concerns about hygiene on social media. This is a huge misconception about sun sticks. Trust me. They are filled with skin safe preservatives in the same way that lip products are. Do you fear bacteria contamination after every lip tint swipe? No. The same concept applies to sun sticks; they are formulated to be used repeatedly.

In fact, it’s more hygienic to apply than traditional liquid/cream sunscreens when out and about. It does not require extensive rubbing in. I simply turn my first finger into a claw-like shape and rub it in with my knuckle to avoid using my finger tips. Its powder soft formula allows for a flawless effect without patchiness. Its formula also allows it to glide over the skin with tugging. It makes it ideal for using under my eyes where skin is particularly thin and prone to sun damage.

Green Plum Refreshing AHA + BHA toner

The Green Plum Refreshing AHA + BHA toner’s gentle but effective formula makes it a pleasure to use. A disclaimer: It can cause increased photosensitivity like all chemical exfoliating products. But this is easily combated with Beauty of Joseon’s arsenal of sunscreens. It’s a small price to pay for its skin smoothing and hyperpigmentation eliminating effects. My new favourite is Relief Sun Aqua Fresh + B5.

I particularly like using the toner on my lips to lighten my sun damage. I unfortunately didn’t use spf lip balm growing up due to somehow mistakenly thinking that lips don’t need it! They very much do, especially if you use acne treatments or chemical exfoliants. Here are two of my vitamin C lip balms for optimal damage treatment: COSRX Refresh AHA BHA Vitamin C Lip Plumper and TOCOBO Vitamin Nourishing Lip Balm.  I ensure that I have both by my bedside at all times! It’s far more sophisticated than western lip balms. It definitely does not have the trifecta of cosmetic elegance sins that they have: a weird bitter aftertaste, white cast and heaviness.

It’s easy to forget that I’m wearing them. That’s not to say that it doesn’t make a difference. It very much does – hence my lightened pigmentation and damage prevention.

Light On Serum Centella + Vita C

Last but not least, the Light On Serum Centella + Vita C. I love using it under my sunscreen for enhanced UV protection. I particularly like to apply it to my hyperpigmentation problem areas i.e on my cheekbones and nose bridge. Its Centella Asiatica and Vitamin C extract rich formula effortlessly ensures moisture and enhances my skin’s natural lustre.

I understand that some people are sensitive to vitamin C due to its potency. Consequently, I am pleased to say that the formula kills two birds with one stone (apologies for the graphic imagery) by using highly stable vitamin C derivatives encapsulated within a skin barrier enhancing formula. In other words, irritation won’t be an issue. The same will soon apply to stubborn hyperpigmentation.

The final word

I cannot recommend Beauty of Joseon’s arsenal of skin barrier enhancing products enough.

You are guaranteed to wax lyrical about the brand too.
