My Top 5 Picks

Long time no see! What have you been up to? Hopefully enjoying the summer albeit with sunscreen topped off with a sunstick? Bravo if you have! If not, it’s never too late to start caring about your skin.

I personally have been on a mission to figure out whether sheet masks really make a difference. Long story short? They do.

The Results

My skin looks and feels softer, brighter and is better prepped for make up. I have found that the most effective routine comprises both hydrating and active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and Vitamin c.

I’ll walk you through what sheet masks to add to your K-Beauty skincare arsenal. They are all the rage in Korea for good reason! Here are my holy grail sheet masks.

Top 5 Must Have Sheet Masks

1. Anua Green Lemon Vita C Blemish Serum Mask: perfect for combatting sun damage and acne induced hyperpigmentation. It is infused with 20,000ppm Vitamin C via its green lemon extract. It also contains glutathione, niacinamide and Vitamin E for further brightening effects. My sensitive skin loved its gentle yet effective formula.

2. Anua Peach 70 Niacin Serum Mask: perfect for moisturising and brightening. It is formulated with 70 percent peach extract and niacinamide for optimal results. Its effects are further heightened (incredible right?) by hyaluronic acid, yeast ferment extract and Vitamin B12. I loved how saturated the sheet mask was; that’s not to say it dripped though. It contained the perfect amount of serum making it stay on my face with minimal effort.

3. Anua Heartleaf Cream Sheet Mask Night Solution: perfect for extra nourishment at night. It is infused with heartleaf hence its nourishing and soothing properties. It is great for all skin types due to its sensitive skin friendly ingredients such as ceramides and panthenol. Both ingredients are key for healing and strengthening the skin barrier. I like to use it on days where I wear makeup for a particularly long time. It really helps to rejuvenate my skin and makes my skin look fresh and radiant in the morning.

4. Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella Watergel Sheet Ampoule mask: perfect for particularly humid, sticky nights. It is infused with 51% Madagascar cica extract for an instant soothing and hydrating effect. Its pH balancing technology helps to strengthen the skin barrier – it’s particularly important in the summer due to increased sweating. Its mentha arvenis leaf oil provides a cooling sensation making it my summer staple.

5. Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturising Mask: perfect for sun parched skin. It is infused with 9,900ppm of birch juice, allantoin and hyaluronic acid for instant hydration. Its 100 percent cotton mask is made without additives for the ultimate skin-friendly touch. Say goodbye to sun parched skin and hello to dewy skin!

How To Optimise Sheet Mask Efficacy

1. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser(s) like Isntree Yam Root Vegan Milk Cleanser. If wearing make up and/or sunscreen, follow a two-step routine. Use a balm such as Beauty of Joseon Radiance cleansing balm or Mary & May Vitamin BCE Cleansing Balm to thoroughly cleanse the skin. Follow with a second step cleanser such as HaruHaru Wonder Black Rice Moisture 5.5 Soft Cleansing Gel or Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser to ensure that no traces remain behind. 2. Apply a toner such as Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Toner or Goodal Vegan Rice Milk Moisturising Toner by pouring some into the palms of your hands and gently pressing it against your skin.

3. Remove the sheet mask from its packaging and apply evenly to your entire face ensuring that the eye and nose holes align with your face.

4. Take the mask off after 10-20 minutes and gently tap the remaining contents onto your face for optimal absorption.

Top Tips

● I like to use sheet masks whilst drying my hair due to the heat from hair dryers having the potential to aggravate parched and sun stressed skin. So, I like to counter this by enveloping my skin in heavy duty hydrating ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid.

● Storing the sheet masks in the fridge provides the ultimate relaxation after a long summer day. The remaining contents of the mask can be kept in a zip-lock bag in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

● Can’t be bothered to use body moisturiser? Use the remaining contents of the mask on your legs and arms for extra hydration without any heaviness.
