The Ultimate Sun Protection

The reality is that wet, gloomy and dark sums up British weather. But you’d be mistaken to think that you don’t need UV protection. UV rays penetrate through the gloomiest of skies and its effects are heightened by snow.

The Power of Rice: Beauty of Joseon’s Relief Sun SPF50+ PA++++

Beauty of Joseon is lauded for its multi-faceted approach to sun-care protection. I can attest to the fact that TikTok is onto something; its Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF50 + PA++++ is NOT overrated.

We’ve finally been blessed with a weightless, fragrance free and affordable every day sunscreen. The formula is not reminiscent of thick, white and sticky sunscreens from our primary school sports days. Shudder.

Its primary ingredient is rice. Rice has been touted for its skin brightening properties (Zamil et al, 2022 – ‘Dermatological uses of rice products: trend or true?’) for centuries and it’s not hard to see why. Skin brightening definitely does not mean bleaching though.

The focus is on countering the effects of sun damage: dull skin, hyperpigmentation and hypersensitivity. The formula kills two birds with one stone.

1. UV damage prevention.

2. Treating existing pigmentation.

Make sure not to skimp on it; you need two finger lengths of sunscreen in order to benefit from its protection from UV effects.

The Relief Sun is now an indispensable part of my skincare routine. Its velvet finish provides the perfect base for make up. Make up however isn’t necessary; its white-cast free finish eliminates the need for primers and foundations.

It has sold at least 4 million tubes for a reason. A PSA though: make sure you buy yours from a reputable seller like Unblemish. Beauty of Joseon has an app dedicated to verifying authenticity. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to take advantage of it. Counterfeit products are rife.

Exploring Beauty of Joseon’s Innovative Sunscreen Range

Beauty of Joseon has lesser known but equally innovative sunscreens too. Its second release is their Matte Sun Stick SPF50+ PA++++ which contains mugwort and camelia.

Two or three swipes provides optimal coverage. Its formula is mattifying thanks to its primary ingredient: silica powder. It glides over make up with minimal smudging making it perfect for make-up lovers.

A top tip: use it from the inner face outward to prevent make up from migrating.

Blush near one’s ears isn’t the best look. It is palm sized making it the ideal addition for handbags – there are no excuses not to reapply sunscreen now! Last but not least is their Ginseng Moist Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++ with ginseng and niacinamide.

My sensitive skin loved this innovative new release. Its lightweight formula is perfect for oily and combination skin and makes a great base for makeup.

A word of warning: it does contain essential oils (bitter orange and jasmine) so the Sun Serum is not fragrance free unlike the Relief Sun and Matte Sun Stick so it might be wise for those with sensitive skin to patch test it.

The main takeaway?

Beauty of Joseon’s global reputation is not unfounded. #highlyrecommend

Beauty of Joseon will undoubtedly be a holy grail for you too. I strongly advise you to walk – actually run to put this in your Unblemish basket as soon as possible. You will not regret it.
