A Little about the Double Cleanse
The South Korean double cleanse method has become particularly well-known in the world of skincare for its ability to leave skin feeling clean, fresh, and rejuvenated. It involves two steps:
1 – Use an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup and sunscreen,
2 – then use a water-based cleanser to remove any remaining impurities.
The idea behind this method is that oil-based cleansers are better (ahem, the best actually) at breaking down oil-based impurities, such as makeup and sunscreen, while water-based cleansers are better at removing water-based impurities, such as sweat and dirt.
The science is that ‘oil attracts oil’, which makes an oil cleanser actually your best friend at fighting oily skin. Crazy eh? Read more in depth about the oil step here and more about the water step here.
The Benefits of the Double Cleanse
Oh boy, where do I start! Here’s a list off the top of my head:
- Thoroughly removes all makeup, sunscreen, dirt, and other impurities from the skin.
- Improves the texture and tone of the skin.
- Helps other skincare products such as serums and moisturizers to penetrate deeper into the skin, leading to better absorption and more effective results.
- Reduces the appearance of pores, making them less noticeable and creating a more even complexion.
- Helps to prevent breakouts and other skin problems by preventing clogged pores.
- Helps to remove excess oil from the skin, which can lead to a less oily appearance.
- Can help to reduce inflammation and redness in the skin.
- Leaves the skin feeling clean, fresh, and rejuvenated.
I can go on but that should be enough to convince you for now.
OK, but How?
Get that hairband on and listen up. Things are about to get messy.

Step One: Oil-Based Cleanser
To begin, apply an oil-based cleanser to dry skin. Massage it in gently using circular motions, taking care to avoid the eye area. You can use your fingertips or a clean cloth to massage the cleanser into your skin.
Step Two: Water-Based Cleanser
Next, rinse your face with warm water to remove the oil-based cleanser. Then, apply a water-based cleanser to your skin and massage it in using circular motions. This second cleanser will help to remove any remaining oil and impurities from your skin, leaving it feeling fresh and clean.
Simple but lethal. Watch your skin thrive!
