Dr. Ceuracle Cica Regen Sunscreen Review

Pretty much all K-Beauty sunscreens are great for one reason or another – it just depends on what kind of finish you want and what you’re using it for.

Like with this Dr. Ceuracle sunscreen, obviously we’re using it for sun protection but it also depends on whether you’re going to be outdoors a lot, is it high UV and therefore you need PA++++, do you want to even your skin tone or you’re looking for a sunscreen that doubles as a makeup base.

We write a lot about sunscreen at UNBLEMISH because it’s so important and there really is something for everyone.

We’ve written about lots of different types of sunscreen from different perspectives so it’s well-worth checking out the different types. Here’s a selection of guides and reviews: 101 guide, acne guide, tone up review, mattifying and moisturising comparison, dewy finish review. Last but not least: reviews of two viral sunscreens here and here.

I tried the Dr Ceuracle Cica Regen Waterproof Sun precisely because it’s waterproof and high PA, as I wanted to find something that would cope with being outdoors in hot, sweaty weather.

It’s also comes in a huge 100ml bottle, which is excellent, given a lot of sunscreens come in 50ml. Whilst this Dr. Ceauracle sunscreen does look a bit pricey, when you consider the fact that it’s double the size of other sunscreens, it actually ends up being very good value.

Texture

This has a beautiful amount of slip and is easy to apply.

Whilst I’ve mentioned that I love a sunscreen that stays put where you apply it, there is also something to be said for the feel of a lotion that just glides across your skin.

I’d say this is more of a lotion than the Beauty of Joseon Rice + Probiotics Relief Sun, which is more creamy.

Whilst this Dr. Ceuracle isn’t a tone up sunscreen, it’s definitely easier to see where I’ve applied it than the Beauty of Joseon, although the whiteness disappears as soon as I’ve rubbed it in.

I can’t promise there’s no white cast, as I am generally pale but I do have red cheeks, so usually I can see the difference with tone up products immediately.

Ingredients

There’s a good balance of up-to-date new filters, for high protection and cosmetic elegance, as well as antioxidants from the plant extracts.

The formula also includes niacinamide, which helps with a whole host of different things. If you haven’t already read it, check out Safina’s deep dive here.

It does have a little rosemary oil which could be irritating to sensitive skin, although I don’t think there’s much in it as it’s right at the end of the ingredients list.

Experience

Finish

Another factor to consider is you may find this a little shiny depending on what products you use underneath it.

Generally it’s been better than most sunscreens so if you have oily skin, don’t despair, as it’s quite moisturising, you may not even need a cream underneath.

It isn’t the most lightweight Dr. Ceuracle sunscreen I’ve tried so if you do have oily skin, you might want to refer to the acne guide linked above (as products that help acne-prone skin often seem good for oily skin). However it’s not a thick heavy sunscreen and neither is it shiny in and of itself!

It turns out that my shininess issue just comes from too many products with silicones, as well as layering humectants like glycerin and propanediol, although oils (depending on the product formula) can also contribute to this issue.

I absolutely need a moisturiser underneath and there’s a fine line for me between perfect dewiness and shininess.

I’ve recently experimented with ditching some of my most siliconey creams and trying the Benton Snail Bee High Content Steam Cream again.

I’d forgotten how much I like this cream as it’s been a while since I used it. It’s highly moisturising, makes my skin feel soft and isn’t shiny (on me). It feels very luxurious so it makes my morning routine feel fancy! You can read my previous review here.

Make sure you allow it time to dry before you apply your sunscreen or there’s a risk of smooshing your sunscreen around which is likely to affect the protection level.

I just apply my sunscreen before I leave for work, which gives my earlier layers plenty of time to dry – ten minutes tends to be fine for me on a non-work day.

This is my top combination for dry skin that can be prone to shine – it’s crazy because surely dry skin should be shiny but there you go: the behaviour of a product isnt always predictable based on skin type alone. Although of course it’s a good starting point! Read more about how to determine your skin type here.

Waterproofness

Whilst I knew it was waterproof, due to it staying on my skin when I was sweaty, I had the ultimate test recently.

I got a bug in my eye and it was difficult to remove, making my eyes super watery.

With non-waterproof sunscreens, this would mean that there’d be milky sunscreen tears running down my face.

But the tears were completely clear! It wasn’t lifting off the sunscreen at all.

Should this unfortunate event happen to you, or any water running on your skin, don’t forget to reapply on that area or you may not be protected. The general advice is always to reapply after water exposure.

Final Word

Whilst I love all of my sunscreens for different reasons and different purposes, I’ve used this sunscreen more than any other this summer.

Usually I get a bit antsy if I’m running low on the Beauty of Joseon Rice sunscreen – my most repurchased sunscreen. But actually I haven’t been bothered about running out at all – that’s how good the Dr Ceuracle is for my skin!
